International conferences are loud, hectic places and can be overwhelming for PLHIV, especially if they are still jetlagged from their travels. The Positive Lounge is designed for individuals who are living with HIV to optimize their participation at the conference.

Tips

To create a safe space for all PLHIV, do not invite non-PLHIV into the Lounge unless they are your personal caregivers.

To preserve the space as a quiet, restful space do not work or hold meetings in the Lounge. Keep the networking with other delegates social and find other places to work.

There are usually tables out front of the Lounge where you can leave materials advertising your sessions, demonstrations or organizations. Do not leave pamphlets or leaflets in the Lounge.

Lounges usually provide light healthy refreshments.

Sign up early for extra services like massage, chiropractic, yoga classes or other services.

Lounges usually provide a private area where you can take your medications, including a needle disposal. If you need further health care or other services, the staff and volunteers can help you.
