Austria has no travel restrictions denying entry due to HIV Status. Care should be taken if you need to change planes in a country with HIV travel restrictions. Details on these countries are available at the Global Database on HIV-Related Travel Restrictions.

According to the same resource, there are no specific entry or residency regulations in Austria  for people with HIV/AIDS. Neither a medical certificate or an HIV test result is required when entering the country.

Antiretroviral medication can be imported for personal use.

Sex workers are required to undergo regular health checks. This requirement is not connected with visa or residency permits.

Foreigners with a known HIV infection are not subject to specific residence regulations. There are no regulations regarding the control, deportation or expulsion of PLHIV.

The legal regulations requiring health checks from non-EU citizens staying for more than six months are no longer in place. A new immigration law has been implemented as of January 1, 2006.
