Affiliated Events are events organized in conjunction with the Conference, but are held away from the main conference site and outside of the normal hours of conference events. They could be pre-conferences, meetings, lectures, courses, cultural activities or marches and demonstrations.
The advantage of registering your activity as an affiliated event is that it will be listed in the official programme and on the website and that you will have permission to use the Conference logo in the promotion of your event. In addition there will be places in the Exhibition Hall where you can post notices or leaflet your event. Each event has to be submitted to a review and approval process in order to be recognized as an official affiliated event.
How to apply
Go to the Affiliated Events page on the AIDS 2010 website and look through the Affiliated Events application form before you start. Read the guidelines and criteria on the website carefully to make sure your event qualifies. Key criteria are that your activity reflect and support the vision and goals of the conference, that it address HIV/AIDS and related issues, that it reflect conference policies and goals of diversity and inclusion, and that it must be held away from the main conference site and outside regular conference hours.
Tips
Go the AIDS 2006 website and look at the list of 2008 Affiliated Events that took place in Mexico
Nothing stops you from organizing an event separate from the conference and not registering it as an affiliated event. It just will not be listed in the official Conference programme and you will not be allowed to use the Conference logo in the promotion of your event.
