In an attempt to increase access to the conference, a limited number of full and partial scholarships are offered under two programmes:
1)International Scholarships, and
2) Media Scholarships.
Full scholarships for both include registration fee, economy-class travel, budget accommodation and a modest daily allowance. Partial scholarships include one or more of the above. Although 2,963 people received some sort of financial assistance to attend AIDS 2008 in Mexico City, (including committee members, some presenters, and others) only 810 received full scholarships out of 9 ,757 applications received. Given the low number of scholarships available, applicants are strongly encouraged to seek other funding as well.
International Scholarships.
Although International Scholarships are open to anyone in the world, prioity is given to people from resource-constrained settings and to young scientists, community activists and civil society representatives. Priority will be given to those whose participation will help enhance their work in their own communities, to those who are able to assist in the transfer of skills and knowledge acquired at the conference, and to those whose abstract, workshop or activity submission has been selected.
Media Scholarships.
A very limited number of scholarships will be available for media representatives from around the world. Media scholarship applicants will need to provide media accreditation and supporting documents.
